SHOWHUNTER – A TECHNICAL SPECTACULAR

At Show Hunter Horse of the Year 2012 you will be watching a sport that examines the technical art of jumping that demands perfection testing exactness in style in terms of the approach, action over the fence, and the line taken to the next fence. The round must demonstrate control, rhythm and a flowing performance. The horse will show excellent jumping form folding his legs well, using his body, head and neck, basculing in an even arc over the jump, and present a picture that is a delight to watch. The course will be designed to favour smoothness, accuracy and a flowing performance. The jumps will be naturally styled with easy take off type fences with simple verticals and oxers including pickets, natural rails, brushes and small walls.

From the time the competitor enters the arena they are under the jurisdiction of the judge. The majority of classes place an emphasis on the horse; however, the rider is on show in the NRM sponsored national Equitation series as position and control are judged.

It’s National Series day on the Friday with the KiwiSpan Open, Albany Toyota Amateur and Gyro Plastics Junior High Points Series in an action packed programme as riders who have accumulated points on a national leader board during the season compete for the final honours. The Pony Categories, with a day each for Category, run their High Points and Equitation finals on their respective days. They will be riding for the NRM Equitation title, the Category C, A, and the T&M Nurseries Category B High Points titles. Be there as each displays the exciting potential of these young riders.

Come back for the Horse of the Year classes on the Saturday. This day is dedicated to the finals and tension runs high as perfection is anticipated, delivered and rewarded.

Remember that all competitors must qualify with at least 20 points gained over the season before they can compete in any Show Hunter class at the show. Success at the Horse of the Year event provides the highest accolade in the Show Hunter sport in New Zealand ensuring spectators will be watching the best Show Hunters at all levels.

The technical splendour of Showhunter will be on show at HOY 2012!

The following is an example of the divisions on show, with a full schedule of classes available in the programme.
