Australia have won the Country TV Tri Nations competition at the 2014 NRM Horse of the Year Show in Hastings tonight (Saturday).

The third and final round, held as part of the Classic Hits Saturday Night Variety Show, bore the brunt of the weather with steady rain making the course slippery for the nine riders from New Zealand, Australia and China.

Riding borrowed horses, New Zealand, led by Sir Mark Todd, and China had costly rounds bagging 30 faults apiece, while the Australians continued their good form picking up just 10 faults, including a brilliant clear from Merrick Ubank.

Australia has led from the front, winning each day's competition. Renior NZPH was the only horse to jump all five rounds over the three days, clear.

Final scores – Australia 16 points, New Zealand 9 points, China 4.
