Jock Paget has withdrawn from this afternoon's Land Rover CIC3* cross country at the Farmlands Horse of the Year Show after his horse Henton After Dark came down with a small respiratory infection.
The horse was sitting in third spot after the dressage and showjumping phases.
“Obviously I am very disappointed because we were in with a chance of winning, but we're not prepared to take a risk with the horse,” said Paget of the Samantha Felton owned horse.
The class is currently led by Mathew Grayling (Taranaki) NRM Lowenberg on 42.3 penalty points, with Emily Cammock (Christchurch) on Dambala on 47.6, with Paget on 47.8. His withdrawal brings Cammock up to third spot with her other mount Shaw Lee on 51.6.
The John Nicholson designed CIC3* cross country gets under way at 2.30pm, followed by the Hansen Products CIC2* which is being led by Clarke Johnstone (Matangi) on Orient Express on 39.5. Right behind him is Amanda Pottinger (Masterton) aboard Just Kidding on 40.6.
Thousands are expected at the Hawke's Bay Showgrounds for the cross country.
