Helping Hand for Cure Kids
Back to Article SearchEquestrian supporters dug deep at the Horse of the Year Hall of Fame dinner, donating $10,000 to Cure Kids, the chosen charity for the 2013 show.
An auction raised $8,500, with a further $1,500 gathered from the 350 people at the sell-out gala dinner.
Representing the charity at the dinner was Cure Kids' Izzy Kloogh – a keen young horsewoman from Dunedin. At eight she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). In the years following, she endured hundreds of procedures including debilitating chemotherapy.
Through it all, time with her pony Brookfields Dream Maker was the solace she sought.
Izzy, who is now in remission, spoke at the dinner, underlining the important work that Cure Kids do for so many youngsters across the country.
Cure Kids fundraising and events manager Rosemary Such said it was a privilege to be the charity of choice at the Horse of the Year Show.
“To be able to introduce Izzy, a passionate rider and Cure Kids ambassador to attendees of the gala dinner was a highlight,” said Rosemary. “Her battle with leukaemia is a reminder to us all about why our focus on finding cures for life-threatening childhood illnesses is so important to ensure the future health of our kids both here and around the world.”
