2010 Showing Section Meeting

On behalf of the Showing committee, I would like to thank all who attended the forum we held in Hastings on the 19th of July.

Those present debated the issues in a manner which gave the Committee some positive outcomes to consider and we are sure that any changes  introduced for the 2010 HOY will benefit competitors, spectators and the general running of this section.

Tuesday afternoon will see the introduction of a new section “Riding Horses”.

The definition of this horse is: A Riding Horse is a Saddle Horse which does not fit the criteria of a Show Hack or Saddle Hunter, but is of a type between the two.  It is still a quality show horse of excellent conformation, soundness and manners with free forward-going even paces; with less elegance and a little more bone and substance than a Show Hack but less than a Saddle Hunter.  It is capable of carrying a lady or gentleman rider pleasantly for longer journeys than a show hack.

Being the first time for this section, we view that some lenience should be placed on the entries, thus the criteria will be:

  • Horses nominated at the beginning of this season as “Riding Horses” may enter the Rising Star Riding Horse section, but may not compete in Rising Star Hacks, Rising Star Park Hacks or Rising Star Saddle Hunters.
  • There will be no qualification required for the classes.
  • They may not have won an open champion prior to the 2009 HOY in any section but are able to enter if they have won an open champion in the 2009 – 2010 season, i.e. from now on.
  • They may not compete in the open classes.
  • Horses nominated at the beginning of this season as “Riding Horses” may enter the open “Riding Horses” section may not compete in Hack, Park Hack or Saddle Hunter classes or the Rising Star classes.
  • There will be no qualification required for the lead up classes.
  • Competitors entering the title Paced & Mannered Riding Horse of the Year class, must have won two open Paced & Mannered classes or two reserve champion Paced & Mannered awards or one champion Paced & Mannered award at qualifying shows in the twelve months prior to the first day of 2010 HOY competition.
  • In the event of a qualifying show not providing “Riding Horses” classes and a qualification has been achieved in another section i.e. Hack, Park Hack or Saddle Hunter classes then this qualification will be accepted for the 2010 show.
  • Competitors entering the title Riding Horse of the Year class, must have won a champion or two reserve champions at qualifying shows in the twelve months prior to the first day of 2010 HOY competition.
  • In the event of a qualifying show not providing “Riding Horses” classes and a qualification has been achieved in another section i.e. Hack, Park Hack or Saddle Hunter classes then this qualification will be accepted for the 2010 show.

On the Friday morning, the “Wonder Memorial Junior Equestrian Turnout” class will replace the Junior Handler class.

The name “Wonder” is in memory of a great little pony that Sue Thompson competed on some years ago that many of you would probably remember.

The class will be run under the same format as the Gee Wizz, but for riders 16 years & under on ponies not exceeding 148cm.  Riders must be in children’s formal attire.

On Sunday morning, in ring two, In Hand Horse classes will be held.

All conformation title classes will have the horses/ponies stripped for conformation first, judged and marked, and then following on to their individual workouts.

All lapels/badges are banned from being worn at HOY on show jackets.

Qualifications introduced for the title led classes: To have attended two A & P shows and to have been placed either 1st, 2nd or 3rd at one of them.

Rising Star classes for both horses and ponies will now have a limit of two years competition in this section.

Introducing Rising Star title classes with the qualification being: One novice/open conformation champion or two reserve novice/open conformation champions.
