Kelt Capital Horse of the Year - A celebration of all things equestrian - New Zealand

Welsh

YOU HAVE TO BE THERE!

Welsh ponies are one of the world’s most versatile ponies. They are excelling in all facets of the equestrian scene in all parts of the world.

There are four classes in the Welsh Pony division.

1. Section A The Welsh Mountain Pony must not exceed 121.9cm.
2. Section B Welsh Ponies must not exceed 137.2cm
3. Sections C & D Welsh Pony of Cob type must not exceed 137.2cm.

In New Zealand they are used extensively in show ring. Most of our top Lead Rein ponies are Section A. They have also excelled in other disciplines like 1st ridden and harness.

The general description of the Welsh Mountain Pony can be applied with greater emphasis on riding pony qualities whilst still remaining the true Welsh Quality with substance.

The action of Section C and D Cobs is to be free, true and forcible. The knee should be bent and the whole foreleg should extend straight from the shoulder and as far forward as possible at the trot. Hocks flexed under the body with straight powerful lever edge.
