WHO ARE WE:
NZ Mounted Games was formed in April 2002. We sent a development squad of 5 Riders to Canada to train with the Canadian Worlds Team under the guidance of the Canadian International Coach. We had a team going to Kentucky USA in July this year to compete in the MGA World Champs. There were 14 countries competing and this is a first for NZ. The NZ Team competed extremely well and although they weren't placed they learnt a lot.
Mounted Games are fast and entertaining. Hand /Eye Co-ordination, fitness and flexibility are some of the major requirements for riders. As is a small fast and bulletproof pony. Pony height for MGA a max of 14.2h for international competition and there is a height to weight ratio system for riders.

WHO CAN PLAY:
MGA riders can be of any age. Age groups for Individuals, Pairs or Teams are set for up to 25yrs old and there are Adult classes for over 25yrs old. They are called the Fossils.

ABOUT MGA GAMES:
MGA Games are similar to Pony Club Games but with some more exciting games and some slightly different rules. Even though the games are fast they are not timed in any way. This means that if a rider is way out in front the don't have to go at top speed to win the points for that race similarly if a rider is way behind they don't have to go flat out to make up a time. Points are awarded for placing across the line and points are totalled to determine who wins or qualifies for finals.

WHERE CAN A RIDER GO WITH MGA:
NZMGA is part of a worldwide association. At present there is 17 member countries. A Worlds Team Competition is held every year. This year it is Kentucky USA and 2004 it is in France. So there is an opportunity to travel upon making the NZ team or Pairs or as an Individual. There is also a Pairs competition held in Germany every April and various Individual Competitions held around the world.

THIS WILL BE THE THIRD YEAR AT HOY.
We had our first year at the Horse of the Year in 2003 and it was very successful, followed by even more success in 2004.
We will have International competitors in 2005 again. NZMGA is working closely with IMGA in securing the riders. We have again been invited to take part in the Friday night Extravaganza following on from the succsess of previous years.
All enquires regarding HOY 2005 should be directed to.
