Teams have competed in this competition for the last few years and have done exceeding well.  We wish them all the best for their upcoming competition.  Below are the Biographies  of the Horse of the Year Team Members 


Simone Simpson – Senior Rider:

Simone Simpson is a 20 year old insurance claims officer with AON Insurance and lives in Waiuku, south of Auckland. Simone has a distinguished list of achievements in her equestrian career as a junior and senior rider having won numerous Horse of the Year, New Zealand National and Royal Show championships for her riding and on her lovely show ponies and hacks. Simone was named the ASB Sports Person of the Year for equestrian in 2003 and has ridden at Canberra and Brisbane Royal Shows.
This is Simone's third trip to Werribee to represent New Zealand. She finish 3rd in 2006 in the Senior Rider Championship at the EFA National Show Horse & Rider Championships on her mount Valiant Legend and this year will compete on DQ Charmer (NSW) who has won the prestigious Pope Cup and numerous Royal Show wins in Australia.


Tinesha Carey – Intermediate Rider:

15 year old Tinesha Carey hails from Hastings in the Hawkes Bay area of New Zealand and will contest the Intermediate Rider title at Werribee. As one of New Zealand's shining equestrian talents, Tinesha has 9 Horse of the Year titles to her credit and represented New Zealand five times - most recently riding for New Zealand in 2007 at the Showmanship Challenge held in Perth. Tinesha is quickly rising through the ranks of Show Jumping in New Zealand with her team of ponies and horses. Tinesha is jumping at Grand Prix level and has two Open Level eventing mounts. Not only does Tinesha compete successfully in equestrian but is a respected hockey player and has designs on representing New Zealand as a Black Stick in the future. Tinesha is on the National Hockey Development Squad.


Alana Clapperton – Junior Rider:

12 year old Alana Clapperton lives in Palmerston North and goes to Newbury
School. Alana will represent New Zealand at Werribee having won the Junior Rider title at the Kelt Capital Horse of the Year Show. Alana has has much success with her show pony Beechcroft Chablis in New Zealand and has the past two years won the Champion Rider of the Show at the Manawatu Showing Championships against adult riders. Alana placed 3rd in her section at the World Dressage Challenge held in Taupo in early November. Alana is also extremely quick on her feet and is a successful cross country runner.


Ashley Duncan & Falconhurst First Class and Langtree Autograph – Large Show Pony:

Ashley Duncan is a 15 year old student from Rotorua. Ashley is a talented rider that has produced Langtree Autograph to take out the converted title of New Zealand's Supreme Pony of the Year in 2008. Her other mount Falconhurst First Class has previously won this title in the hands of Ashley's older sister Kelsey Duncan and has competed at Werribee in the Trans Tasman Championship. Falconhurst First Class tied for Runner Up at Werribee in 2006 in the Large Pony title but was relegated to 3rd after a count back. Both ponies will represent New Zealand at Werribee in the Large Show Pony Championship having won their respective height titles at the Kelt Capital Horse of the Year Show. Ashely will be riding Falconhurst First Class whilst Kelsey Duncan will be riding Langtree Autograph at Werribee.



Georgia Kloosterman & Lorken Park Applause – Galloway:

Georgia Kloosterman is 15 years old and hails from Karaka, South of Auckland and goes to St Kentigerns College in Pakuranga. Georgia has been competing on ponies since she was 8 years old and has owned Lorken Park Applause for the past two years. Georgia and Lorken Park Applause will represent New Zealand in the Galloway title event at Werribee. Lorken Park Applause has previously competed at the EFA National Show Horse & Rider Championships with Simone Simpson. Georgia is a member of the Pakuranga Hunt and has enjoyed the last two seasons hunting. Most of her weekends are spent competing her team of ponies.


Elizabeth Charleston – Team Manager

Elizabeth has worked internationally as a model, photographer and journalist. She has had a long standing passion for all forms of equestrian, competing in showing, dressage, show jumping and eventing in New Zealand and overseas. In 2003 Elizabeth had the honour of riding at both Brisbane and Melbourne Royal Shows where she rode well known top Australian show horse WS Jordan in the Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout. Elizabeth has been in numerous team events including representing the Western Province at the South African National Showing Championships. In South Africa Elizabeth has won several State and National titles in Showing.
